Criteria Evaluated for D1 Play-Up Requests

Please find the criteria the NELSA DOC uses to determine whether or not a player be allowed to play outside of his or her age appropriate group:

1. Did we receive necessary paperwork requesting play up? What is reason for request? (Letter or email to NELSA)
2. Is the player in the same school grade as the rest of the team he/she is requesting to play?
3. Is the player a dominant (the best or one of the best) in his/her own age group? Is he/she good enough?
4. Will the player immediately and positively impact the team on which they are requesting to play? Can they start?
5. Does the decision to play up impact the family? (financial, travel, etc.) Does the player have a sibling on the team on which they are asking to play?
6. What are the numbers on the team the player is leaving vs. the team they are requesting to move and how will each team be impacted? (Will players be cut from the older team who are age appropriate to allow room for the younger play up?)
7. What is best for the player in question? (From a soccer perspective) Where will he/she develop better?

U17B D1 Players Selected

Rostered players are existing/former players with team tenure and a proven skillset to compete at the D1 level.  Players with the Rostered designation need to understand that their position is not secure and that they can be relegated to Academy status if deemed necessary by the coach.

Rostered players are: 141, 145, 147, 149, 152, 160, 161, 162, 163, 164, 169, 170, 176, 179, 184

Academy players are new/existing players that have demonstrated a skillset capable of competing at the D1 level.  The Academy players will train with the team and will participate in tournament play.   However, they may not play in every game.  Academy players that excel can earn a roster position and replace a rostered player.

Academy players are: 150, 168, 171, 175

An additional tryout will be held during August for those players that were unable to make previous tryouts.

A final roster of 18 will be chosen by the cutoff date in April prior to the District and State tournaments.  Inclusion in the final roster will be based on performance, attitude, and work ethic.  The U-16/17 coach will be contacting each parent individually and will answer any questions that you may have.
