U14 and Older Division One Tryouts / TRYOUTS ARE CANCELLED for Wed., June 9th

TRYOUTS ARE CANCELLED for Wed., June 9th. If you had not attended the first tryout for U14G and wish to be considered for the team, please contact the NELSA office by phone at 361-0103 or email at soccer@nelsa.org. Your name will be taken and you will be advised when another date is set or a private tryout is scheduled for the U14G team.

U14G (born between 8/1/96 – 7/31/97) will take place on Monday, June 7, Wednesday, June 9 and Monday, June 28. Tryout times for June 7th and 9th is 5:45 – 6:45 pm at the NELSA Centurylink Soccer Complex in Chennault Park. June 28th tryouts will take place from 5:30 – 6:30 pm at Chennault Park. It is strongly recommended that you attend TWO tryouts.

U14B (born between 8/1/96 and 7/31/97) and older and U15G and older age groups up to U19 will be held Sunday, June 13 and Monday, June 14 and Monday, June 28. All Girls tryouts will take place from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. All boys tryouts will be from 6:45-7:45 pm. Tryouts will take place at the NELSA CenturyLink Soccer Complex in Chennault Park. It is strongly recommended that you attend TWO tryouts.

Please note that you must arrive early in order to sign in for the tryouts and receive a number. If your child wishes to play up out of their appropriate age group you must send a request to NELSA to do so PRIOR to their first tryout. Instructions will be sent back on how the request will be handled. It is important that NELSA obtain all current information on the player so the coaches may make contact with the players once LSA allows them. OCS and Coach Bruce Deaton are hosting a soccer camp for Elementary and Middle School children June 29 – July 1. Please find the registration form attached. Registrations will be accepted right up until camp time, but to ensure your camper receives a camp t-shirt and soccer ball, please try to get your forms in no later than June 11th.

Thomas Morstead Training Camp

Thomas Morstead, New Orleans Saints Superbowl Punter, will be leading a training camp for ALL types of athletes that are looking to increase their speed, agility, and endurance while also focusing on specific kicking techniques that would benefit both soccer and football players especially.

Warhawk Soccer 3v3 Tournament

After an inaugural season the ULM women’s soccer program is pleased to again sponsor 3v3 soccer. It is one day of non-stop soccer! All games will be played on the ULM campus in a classic tournament format. Each team will play 3 games within their group to determine seeding & then the tournament begins.

Teams Compete and Win in Lafayette

Congratulations to all of the NELSA teams that competed in the Cajun Soccer Club’s Hub City Ford Lagniappe Tournament in Lafayette March 7 and 8.

The U11G Explosion team came out on top placing first in their bracket. What a great win for these girls!

The U12B Lightning team went to the finals placing second after a heartbreaking loss in the last minute of overtime as the CSC United put in one last goal to win over our boys 3-2.

Local Coach and Players Earn Recognition

Bruce Deaton, coach of the Ouachita Christian School soccer team, has earned the recognition of Girls Division III Coach of the Year. Congratulations to a top notch coach who really cares about developing soccer in northeast Louisiana! We are very lucky to have Bruce as NELSA’s Assistant Director of Coaching.

In similar news, two seniors from the Ouachita Christian School soccer team have been named to the Girls Division III All-State 2009-2010 First Team. Congratulations goes out to Abby Chowns and Gracie Thaxton. Way to go girls!
